Four Roses Distillery has launched its first-ever cask finished bourbon, the Experimental Series No. 001. This innovative release uses a six-year-old OBSK recipe bourbon, which was then aged further in Japanese mizunara oak casks.
Mizunara oak, native to Japan, is known for imparting distinctive flavors like sandalwood and coconut, though its porous nature requires careful handling. The distillery experimented with various recipes and aging conditions to find the optimal pairing for the mizunara finish.
The Experimental Series No. 001 will be available starting July 30th, exclusively at Four Roses visitor centers in Lawrenceburg and Cox's Creek, Kentucky. These bottles come in 375mL sizes with a suggested retail price of $55 and are bottled at 104 proof.
Master Distiller Brent Elliott expressed excitement about this new chapter, emphasizing the exploration of new flavors while staying true to Four Roses' character. The distillery plans to release more expressions in this experimental series, with numbers 002 and 003 already listed as 'Coming Soon' on their website.
