Founders Fund, co-founded by Peter Thiel, has successfully raised $6 billion for its fourth growth fund, Founders Fund Growth IV. This significant capital injection comes amidst high investor demand, which reportedly surpassed the fund's capacity. Partners within Founders Fund contributed approximately $1.5 billion to the fund.
This fundraising effort follows the closure of the firm's third growth fund less than a year ago, a $4.6 billion vehicle focused on supporting existing late-stage portfolio companies. Founders Fund boasts a notable history of early investments in successful startups such as Stripe, Palantir Technologies, and SpaceX.
The firm's current investment strategy includes significant backing for leading artificial intelligence companies. Recently, Founders Fund co-led a substantial investment in Anthropic, the AI lab, and also holds an investor stake in OpenAI, positioning itself with significant holdings in both prominent AI entities.
While actively raising growth capital, Founders Fund has maintained a more measured approach to early-stage funds since early 2022. An initial $1.8 billion early-stage fund was later halved to $900 million in response to challenging market conditions, with the remaining capital being reallocated to a new early-stage fund launched in October.
