16 Oct
Summary
- 240 litres of ghee and 18kg of chilli powder were seized.
- Violations included misleading vitamin claims and missing packaging details.
- Food samples were collected for laboratory testing during festive season inspections.
During a recent inspection at City Mall in Dadri, the Gautam Budh Nagar food safety department seized a significant quantity of food products. Approximately 240 litres of ghee and 18kg of chilli powder were confiscated due to labeling violations. The inspection, which took place on Wednesday and was reported on Thursday, was part of broader efforts to ensure food safety during the ongoing festive season.
Assistant commissioner Sarvesh Mishra highlighted that the seized ghee packaging falsely claimed the presence of vitamins and minerals. Additionally, chilli powder packets lacked essential information like packing dates and batch numbers, rendering the product misbranded. Six food samples, including ghee, chilli powder, makhana, mustard oil, and kuttu atta, were collected for laboratory analysis to verify compliance with food safety standards.
The department is intensifying its vigilance, with inspections and sample collections continuing under the district magistrate's directives. This proactive approach aims to guarantee that all food and beverages sold within the district adhere to prescribed safety and quality standards, safeguarding public health.
