21 Jun
Summary
- Storia Foods and Mrs. Bectors fined Rs 1 lakh each.
- Claims of '100%' product composition were found misleading.
- Companies must immediately remove deceptive packaging claims.

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has penalized Storia Foods and Mrs. Bectors Food Specialities Rs 1 lakh each for misleading claims. These companies falsely advertised their products as '100%', misrepresenting their actual composition. Both firms are now required to cease these deceptive claims across all their marketing channels, including websites and digital media.
The CCPA initiated action after discovering that Storia Foods' products, such as '100% Tender Coconut Water' and various juices, contained ingredients like water and concentrate, not pure product. Similarly, Mrs. Bectors' '100% Atta Bread' was found to contain only 87 percent whole wheat flour.
This enforcement action falls under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, and associated guidelines. The CCPA emphasized that advertisements must be truthful and verifiable, holding advertisers accountable for the impression created on ordinary consumers, regardless of their intent.
