Summary
- Flipkart Minutes now leads Swiggy Instamart in dark store count.

- Quick commerce players are expanding in existing markets and new geographies.

Flipkart Minutes has overtaken Swiggy Instamart in the number of dark stores operating within India's top 10 quick-commerce cities. This development highlights the intense competition and rapid expansion occurring in the country's fastest-growing delivery sector.
According to a recent CLSA report, Flipkart Minutes now operates 627 dark stores, surpassing Swiggy Instamart's 615. Blinkit leads overall with 969 stores, followed by Zepto with 828. Blinkit holds the dominant store count in six of the 10 major cities.
While Blinkit and Zepto lead in most major urban centers, Flipkart Minutes has gained significant ground, particularly in Kolkata and Delhi. This indicates a narrowing gap among the leading players as they vie for market share.
Quick commerce companies are focusing on deepening their presence in existing markets and selectively expanding into new geographies. A larger network of dark stores allows for closer proximity to consumers, potentially enabling faster deliveries and broader product availability.
