Summary
- A 396 MW geothermal power agreement was signed with Google.
- The energy will power a potential data center in Utah.
- The project is expected to commence operations in 2028.

Fervo Energy has entered into a substantial 396-megawatt power purchase agreement with Google, a pact designed to facilitate the ongoing development of the Cape Station enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) GeoCluster in Utah. This significant energy project is anticipated to become operational in 2028. Under this agreement, Google will procure carbon-free electricity intended as a foundational resource for a prospective data center in Utah.
The agreement allows Fervo to offer Google an option to increase its energy purchase by an additional 600 MW, potentially reaching nearly 1 GW by June 2030. This initiative promises to deliver new, around-the-clock electricity capacity without impacting existing ratepayers. Both Fervo and Google emphasize a commitment to responsible growth, community engagement, and local investment.
This partnership builds upon Fervo's successful "Project Red" pilot in Nevada, which began delivering power to the grid in 2023. Following that success, Fervo and Google finalized a 115 MW PPA in June 2024. This latest agreement signifies the readiness of EGS technology to meet the escalating demand for reliable, scalable, and firm clean energy resources, particularly for large electricity consumers.
