In a surprising move, legendary DJ Fatboy Slim has announced the sale of his iconic Big Beach Cafe in Hove, East Sussex. The cafe, which Fatboy Slim, real name Norman Cook, has owned since 2013, was forced to shut its doors last year due to a rodent infestation.
The popular "bucket and spade" diner, popular with families visiting the nearby play park and lagoon, was handed a one-star food hygiene rating by the Food Standards Agency after mouse droppings were found in the food preparation areas. The cafe was required to make urgent improvements to address the hygiene issues.
Now, at 62 years old, Fatboy Slim and his manager Dan Stockland say the time is right for a new owner to take over the cafe and bring a "fresh vision" to the business. "Neither of us are getting any younger - we're getting older. I think it's time for a fresh start," Stockland commented.
The setback of the rodent infestation and hygiene issues came just weeks after the cafe was also vandalized by a group of youths, causing over £1,000 in damages. Despite the challenges, the cafe had operated successfully for 14 years under Fatboy Slim's ownership. Now, the superstar DJ is ready to move on to new endeavors, leaving the Big Beach Cafe in the hands of a new proprietor.
