Authorities in Ahmedabad have sealed a food manufacturing unit for producing and selling a ketchup-like condiment that does not contain tomatoes. The unit, MJF Food, located on Pirana Road, was found to be using potato flakes and corn flour as its main ingredients, with no tomatoes involved in the process.
Sealed by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's (AMC) health and food safety department, the unit had approximately 2,000 kg of both raw materials and finished products confiscated. The product, sold under the label 'Tasty Snack Touchup,' bore a misleading label listing ingredients that did not clarify the absence of tomatoes, leading to potential consumer deception.
Further investigations revealed discrepancies in the unit's FSSAI registration details. Purchase bills to verify ingredient procurement were not provided. The AMC has emphasized the importance of valid licenses, accurate labeling, and proper record-keeping for all food businesses, vowing to continue strict action against violations.
