5 Aug
Summary
- EV sector to create 30-40 million jobs by 2030.
- Hiring to grow 15-20% annually, focusing on specialized talent.
- India's EV industry is evolving into an integrated ecosystem.

The electric vehicle (EV) sector is on track to generate between 30 million and 40 million jobs by the year 2030. Hiring within this dynamic industry is anticipated to increase by 15-20% annually.
This significant employment growth is fueled by a rising demand for specialized skills in crucial areas such as engineering, energy systems, and advanced battery technologies.
As EV adoption accelerates across various vehicle types, India's EV industry is entering its most employment-intensive phase. The sector is evolving from a manufacturing-focused opportunity into a fully integrated industrial ecosystem.
The majority of these jobs, 85-90%, are projected to be indirect, with 10-15% being direct roles. Traditional automotive hubs like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Gujarat will continue to see substantial hiring, but growth is increasingly expanding into Tier II and III cities.
New employment corridors are emerging in these developing industrial areas, driven by gigafactories, component parks, and battery recycling facilities. Nearly 70% of new hiring mandates are expected to originate outside conventional hubs.
The products and parts segment, including localized battery cells, motors, and semiconductors, will account for 40-45% of hiring. The battery recycling market and EV infrastructure development are also identified as significant job creation spaces, with infrastructure talent demand growing by 45% over the next decade.
