EU Probes Broadcom Over VMware Cloud Program Cuts
20 Mar
Summary
- Broadcom's VMware program changes risk EU antitrust probe.
- European cloud providers are fighting Broadcom's partner program termination.
- Regulators are assessing a complaint against Broadcom's actions.

The European Commission is assessing a complaint that could lead to an antitrust probe against U.S. chipmaker Broadcom. The complaint was filed by CISPE, a lobbying group representing European cloud infrastructure service providers. Broadcom is accused of unfairly excluding the majority of European cloud service providers by revamping its VMware Cloud Service Provider program and signaling its termination in Europe by January 2026.
CISPE, whose members include nearly 50 European companies, is seeking an interim EU measure to immediately suspend Broadcom's termination of the VMware partner program. They also demand readmission for excluded partners and protection against retaliation. Broadcom, however, stated it strongly disagrees with the allegations and claims CISPE is funded by hyperscalers, misrepresenting market realities.
