Norway's Equinor has initiated the drilling of producer and injector wells for its offshore Raia natural gas project in Brazil. This development marks a significant step for the project located in the Campos basin, with production anticipated to commence in 2028.
Veronica Coelho, Equinor's Brazil country manager, stated that the Raia project is on track and is projected to meet about 15% of Brazil's domestic gas demand. The substantial $9 billion Raia project is expected to yield 16 million cubic meters of gas and 126,000 barrels of oil and condensate daily.
Equinor's engagement in Brazil is expanding, particularly within the pre-salt region. Beyond the Raia project, the company is evaluating new exploratory wells for 2027 in the southern Santos basin, near a major discovery by BP.
Brazil represents Equinor's largest investment market outside of its home country, Norway, underscoring its strategic importance for the energy giant's global operations.
