21 Apr
Summary
- EQT's BPEA IX fund raised $15.6 billion, exceeding targets.
- The fund achieved its close amid a significant downturn in Asian fundraising.
- BPEA IX will target technology, healthcare, and industrial sectors.

Swedish private equity firm EQT has successfully closed its BPEA IX fund, amassing $15.6 billion in total commitments. This figure includes $14.9 billion in fee-generating assets under management, positioning it as one of the largest Asia-focused buyout funds to date.
The fund's oversubscribed close is notable given the current climate, where Asian fundraising has seen a sharp deceleration, reaching multi-year lows in 2025. This success highlights sustained investor interest in established platforms with a proven history of performance, especially as capital increasingly concentrates with major global asset managers.
BPEA IX is set to pursue control investments within key sectors such as technology, healthcare, and industrial technology. The focus will be on companies demonstrating resilient fundamentals and long-term growth prospects. Already, the fund has deployed between 5-10% of its capital through signed and announced transactions.
Investors from across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific contributed to the fund. Pension funds and sovereign wealth funds were primary allocators, joined by over 75 new investors, with more than 45 coming from EQT's broader platform. Jean Eric Salata, chairperson of EQT Asia, noted that "consistent realizations" were a key factor for investors in a challenging fundraising environment.
This fundraise follows EQT's 2022 integration with Baring Private Equity Asia, which significantly boosted its regional presence. The firm has since expanded its capabilities across Asia, covering large-cap, mid-market, and growth strategies. In India, EQT manages over $8 billion in assets.
