In 2026, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has implemented several digital enhancements designed to simplify provident fund management for salaried individuals. These reforms aim to make account operations more accessible and efficient.
Key among these changes is the introduction of face authentication, enabling members to generate, activate, and authenticate their Universal Account Number (UAN) via the UMANG app. This Aadhaar-based system facilitates digital completion of UAN-related services.
Furthermore, EPFO has expanded its auto-settlement facility for advance PF claims, increasing the limit to Rs 5 lakh. Eligible claims for various needs like illness, education, marriage, and housing are now processed within about three days.
The organization has also introduced automatic PF transfers for employees switching jobs, provided their accounts are KYC-compliant and Aadhaar-verified. A new 'Passbook Lite' feature offers a user-friendly way to track PF balances and transactions.
In a move to reduce paperwork, EPFO has simplified the online claim process, eliminating the need to upload documents like cheque leaves or bank passbook copies for eligible claims. Members can also access essential documents such as UAN Card and Pension Payment Order (PPO) through DigiLocker.
