By April 2026, provident fund users will be able to withdraw their dues through ATMs and the unified payments interface (UPI). The Centre is currently conducting trials with banks to operationalize these new withdrawal methods. This simplification aims to reduce the effort required by users, who currently face a process involving multiple forms.
The Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) is a key retirement benefit for salaried employees, with both employees and employers contributing 12% of basic salary and dearness allowance. For the fiscal year 2025-26, the EPF interest rate has been fixed at 8.25%.
In addition to EPF withdrawal enhancements, the Labour Ministry is set to implement four new Labour Codes on April 1. This move follows discussions and differing opinions from trade unions, with some expressing concerns that the codes favor corporate interests, while others have shown acceptance.
