E.ON CEO: Complete Drone Protection is Impossible

Critical energy infrastructure, including hundreds of distribution network points across Germany, cannot be completely secured against external threats like drones. This assessment comes from Leonhard Birnbaum, the CEO of E.ON, Europe's largest energy grid operator.

Birnbaum's comments were made after presenting first-half results and were prompted by a recent incident at Leipzig/Halle airport. An explosive-laden drone was found near a runway, exposing the vulnerability of key infrastructure to outside attacks. The CEO stated that while E.ON is working on initiatives to raise protection levels, complete security against malicious drone attacks is currently not guaranteed due to the rapid advancements in drone technology.

Despite the challenges in ensuring complete protection, E.ON is focused on bolstering its defenses to make attacks more difficult. Furthermore, the company is prioritizing its task of guaranteeing the swift restoration of energy supply in the event of any successful security breaches.
