Ivory Coast Gas Discovery: A Major Find
16 Feb
Summary
- Eni announced a significant gas and condensate discovery named Calao South.
- The find holds estimated volumes of up to 5.0 trillion cubic feet of gas.
- This discovery is the second-largest in Ivory Coast, after Baleine.

Eni, an Italian energy group, has revealed a substantial gas and condensate discovery in Ivory Coast, located in Block CI-501. The new find, named Calao South, was confirmed after drilling the Murene South-1X exploration well, marking a significant development for Eni's decade-long operations in the country.
The Calao South reserves are estimated to contain up to 5.0 trillion cubic feet of gas and approximately 450 million barrels of condensate. This makes it the second-largest hydrocarbon discovery in Ivory Coast, surpassed only by the Baleine field.
Meanwhile, production from the Baleine field is projected to increase with the upcoming launch of Phase 3. This expansion is expected to boost output to 150,000 barrels of oil and 200 million cubic feet of gas daily, positioning Baleine as a critical asset for meeting the nation's domestic energy requirements.
