- India to become a hub for Embraer's global supply chain.
Brazilian aerospace firm Embraer has joined forces with India's Mahindra Group to bid for the Indian Air Force's (IAF) Multi-Role Transport Aircraft (MTA) program. Embraer is offering its KC-390 Millennium jet, a twin-engine platform already in service with several air forces globally, including Brazil and Portugal.
Embraer highlights the KC-390's significant performance advantages over the C-130J, citing greater carrying capacity, higher speed, and enhanced operational availability. The company plans to leverage India not only for this military deal but also to expand its global supply chain and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) base, viewing India as a strategic hub for its growth.
The IAF's MTA program aims to acquire 60 aircraft to replace its aging transport fleet, with an option for more. This initiative has attracted proposals from several Indian companies, including Tata, HAL, Reliance Defence, and Adani, alongside Mahindra. Embraer has also noted separate civilian aircraft business discussions with the Adani Group.
Embraer's strategic vision includes growing its MRO capabilities in India to support its worldwide operations, emphasizing the importance of the Indian market for its expansion. The KC-390's capabilities have been demonstrated, including operations from unpaved desert runways.
