El Al Israel Airlines announced the resumption of its nonstop service connecting Tel Aviv and San Francisco, with flights set to commence on October 25. This route, previously operating from late 2018 until early 2020, was suspended due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
The airline cited significant demand and the importance of both cities as global technology and innovation centers as reasons for reinstating the service. El Al's vice president of commerce and sales highlighted the large Israeli community in the region and the need for a direct connection to Silicon Valley.
In a unique tribute, the flight will be designated LY49, a number chosen in homage to the San Francisco 49ers football team. This route expansion is part of El Al's broader strategy to increase its long-haul offerings, including the recent commitment to acquire up to 12 new Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The addition will enhance Israel's direct flight connections to the United States, complementing existing routes to New York, Miami, Boston, and Los Angeles.
