Egg Producers Settle Price-Fixing Claims
2 Jul
Summary
- Egg producers settled price-fixing allegations with DOJ and states.
- Companies will provide 53 million eggs and $3.3 million.
- Settlement aims to keep egg prices competitive for consumers.

Federal antitrust enforcers and over a dozen states have agreed to a proposed settlement with three leading egg producers, resolving claims of coordinated price manipulation. The investigation alleged that Cal-Maine Food, Versova/Centrum, and Hickman's Egg Ranch colluded to inflate daily egg price quotations from June 2022 to March 2025.
Under the agreement, which requires court approval, the companies will provide 53 million eggs to food banks and community organizations. They will also pay $3.3 million to the participating states. This settlement intends to deter future communications between competitors aimed at influencing egg prices.
Despite allegations, Cal-Maine Foods denied wrongdoing, calling the claims baseless. Versova stated it was pleased the investigation concluded without an admission of guilt. The cost of eggs has been a significant concern for consumers, with prices previously reaching record highs due to factors like avian flu. This settlement seeks to restore competitive pricing for egg purchases nationwide.
