EasyJet Quits Leeds Bradford Airport After 2027
20 Aug
Summary
- EasyJet to cease all operations at Leeds Bradford Airport post-January 5, 2027.
- Five routes will be withdrawn, impacting flights to Belfast, Barcelona, Malaga, Palma, and Paris.
- This decision comes despite EasyJet expanding capacity at the airport for summer 2026.

EasyJet has announced it will cease all operations at Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) effective January 5, 2027. The airline plans to withdraw from five routes, including services to Belfast International, Barcelona, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, and Paris Charles de Gaulle. This decision marks a notable shift, especially as EasyJet had recently expanded its presence at LBA, increasing departing capacity by 35.8% for summer 2026 with the addition of Barcelona.
Despite this recent growth, EasyJet's overall capacity share at LBA for summer 2026 is estimated at approximately 3.3%, ranking it fifth among carriers. Jet2.com and Ryanair together dominate the airport's capacity, holding over 83% of the market share. EasyJet stated that its focus remains on popular routes and providing choice where demand is evident.
This withdrawal follows a period of expansion for EasyJet in the UK, including new bases in Birmingham, London Southend, and Newcastle. The airline's decision comes shortly after agreeing to a £5.7 billion takeover by Apollo Global Management, expected to close in early 2027. In July, EasyJet reported a 70% fall in pre-tax profit for the quarter ending June 30.
