Fuel Dealers Urge E20 Review Amidst Customer Woes
6 Jul
Summary
- Dealers report customer issues linked to E20 petrol use.
- Automakers confirm E20-compatible vehicles are safe.
- Government promotes E20 for reduced oil import dependency.

The Petroleum Dealers Association (PDA) has called for a review of India's E20 petrol rollout, citing customer complaints and vehicle compatibility concerns. Petrol pump owners are reportedly facing difficulties as customers attribute vehicle problems to the higher ethanol blend, despite dealers having no control over fuel policy.
While automakers and industry experts maintain that vehicles certified as E20-compatible are safe and extensively tested, dealers allege that many vehicles, including some BS6 models, were not designed for a 20 per cent ethanol blend. This has led to reported issues like clogged carburettors, with dealers bearing the brunt of customer dissatisfaction.
The Indian government has been promoting E20 petrol as a strategy to decrease reliance on imported crude oil and lower emissions. However, the PDA's intervention highlights ongoing debate, with fuel retailers seeking a reassessment of the policy's implementation.
