On November 5, 2025, Dulquer Salmaan, the acclaimed South Indian actor, was formally issued a notice by the Pathanamthitta Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Kerala. The notice is in connection with a complaint filed by a caterer, PN Jayarajan, alleging food poisoning linked to a rice product Salmaan endorses.
According to the complaint, a 50 kg bag of "Rose Brand Biryani Rice" purchased for a wedding on August 24, 2025 did not display any packing or expiry date. The petition further claims that guests who consumed biryani made using this rice "later suffered from food poisoning".
In the proceedings, the managing director of Rose Brand Biryani Rice is named as the first accused, the manager of the retail shop where the rice was purchased is the second accused, and Dulquer Salmaan is listed as the third accused. The commission has directed all three to appear before it on December 3, 2025.

The petitioner is seeking a compensation of ₹5 lakh for damages, ₹10,250 for the cost of the rice, along with court expenses. The caterer stated that he chose the brand after being influenced by Salmaan's promotional campaigns, "he decided to buy the rice because of the brand's advertisements featuring Dulquer Salmaan, whose endorsement influenced his purchase decision."
As the hearing date approaches, the outcome of this case may set a precedent for how endorsement liability is treated in consumer-safety cases in India.
