Dog Food Recall: Metal, Plastic Found!
3 Jul
Summary
- Two batches of Pedigree dog food recalled due to foreign materials.
- Potential metal and plastic fragments pose health risks to dogs.
- Product was fraudulently diverted and sold in the United States.
Dog owners are urged to contact their veterinarians following a recall of two specific batches of PEDIGREE® Can High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck flavored dog food. Mars Petcare US discovered that these batches, sold in the United States, may contain foreign materials including metal and plastic fragments. These materials could pose a serious health hazard to dogs, potentially causing choking, lacerations, or gastrointestinal blockages.
According to Mars, these affected lots were intended for destruction but were fraudulently diverted and sold. The company is working with authorities to understand how the unfit product entered the marketplace. While no pet illnesses or injuries have been reported to date, owners of affected products are advised not to feed them to their pets and to contact Pedigree for a replacement. Only the two specified lot codes are impacted; all other Pedigree products remain unaffected.
