Disney Faces Layoffs Amid AI and Streaming Woes
3 Nov
Summary
- Disney CEO faces challenges from AI, box office, and competition.
- Savings from job cuts will be reinvested into key company areas.
- The company has already made multiple rounds of job cuts this year.

Disney's leadership is reportedly preparing for further job cuts as CEO Josh D'Amaro confronts a landscape marked by advancing AI, weaker box office returns, and intense streaming competition. International theme park attendance has also shown signs of slowing.
The company plans to reallocate savings generated from these measures into crucial areas like film and television production, technological advancements, and the expansion of its theme park and cruise ship operations.
This potential wave of layoffs comes after Disney has already implemented several substantial workforce reductions throughout 2026. Most recently, the theme parks division saw between 100 and 200 employees laid off following a review of investments and projects. These cuts impacted Imagineering, the creative division responsible for theme parks and attractions.
Earlier in the year, Disney eliminated 1,000 roles in April. Additional staff reductions occurred in July and September, primarily affecting tech and HR departments, impacting a couple hundred more employees. These actions align with a broader company-wide cost-reduction strategy, including voluntary early retirement offers made to executives in August.
