Roarr! Dinosaur Park, located near Norwich, is closing its Secret Animal Garden at the end of February. The decision stems from the "overwhelming" requirements of new zoo standards coming into force next year. Director Adam Goymour explained that the animal enclosures are aging and would necessitate major investment to comply with the updated Zoo Licensing Act.
Approximately 100 animals, ranging from guinea pigs and goats to snakes and a giant tortoise, will be rehomed. The park's animal team is assisting in finding suitable new locations, with well-known collections also showing interest. The relocation process aims to ensure animal welfare and a stress-free transition for all creatures by the end of April.
Goymour noted that the animal section was not the park's primary attraction, which also features dinosaur models, play areas, and rides. While the Victorian walled garden housing the animals has no immediate repurposing plans, the park's focus remains on its other attractions. Employees from the animal team may be offered roles elsewhere within the business.
