4 Indian Orgs Empower 30K Women Digitally

The Digital Naukri Challenge has identified four finalists, each set to receive ₹35 lakh in milestone grants to empower women in digital employment. B2R Technologies, Futwork, Karya, and Myna Mahila Foundation will collectively aim to place over 5,000 women each into flexible digital roles within nine months. This initiative, a partnership between The/Nudge Prize and Mphasis, seeks to create more than 30,000 digital livelihood opportunities.

The first phase of the challenge involved eleven organizations testing digitally enabled work models. Key insights revealed that flexibility in work timing and location is vital for women's participation, especially for those facing mobility constraints and caregiving responsibilities. Models offering remote options or minimizing travel proved most effective in reaching excluded populations.

AI model training and BPO services emerged as strong sectors, with remote BPO roles offering the highest and most consistent monthly earnings, averaging ₹10,000-₹14,000. The finalists will now focus on scaling these successful models, ensuring accessibility, income stability, and safety for participants while working towards a collective target of generating over $10 million in new livelihoods.

Advances in generative AI are also shaping the future of digital work, emphasizing higher-value skills like AI evaluation and quality assurance. The finalists' efforts are crucial in adapting to these evolving demands and building sustainable digital career pathways for women across India.
