13 May
Summary
- Dicksons' Bedford Way branch closed permanently after 36 years.

- The bakery chain, founded in the early 1950s, now has 32 sites.
The Dicksons bakery chain has closed its Bedford Way branch in North Shields after 36 years of service. The closure was marked with an emotional tribute on social media, thanking long-serving staff and loyal customers.
However, this marks the beginning of a new chapter as a redesigned, contemporary Dicksons store is set to open on the North Shields high street. The business, which traces its roots back to the early 1950s when it started as a butcher shop in South Shields, has grown to 32 locations.
Mike Dickson, reflecting on the business's history, highlighted that all products are still produced in South Shields. He described the new store's focus as 'breakfast, lunch and tea,' featuring popular items like the saveloy dip, pies, salads, jacket potatoes, and barista coffee.
This change follows a period of significant shifts for Dicksons, including the recent closure of its Newcastle city centre branch, which will be replaced by a fish and chip shop.
