Derbyshire Club Reborn After Fire and Debts
14 Feb
Summary
- Health club faced over £2m debt following fire and leak.
- New owners are investing significantly in the club.
- Spa and studios targeted for March 1 reopening.

The Clifford Health Club and Spa in Long Eaton, Derbyshire, has been acquired by new owners following severe financial difficulties. The previous operator, Mark Clifford PT Ltd, entered a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) with debts surpassing £2 million. This financial strain occurred shortly after a fire, caused by an electrical fault, and a chemical leak in 2025.
While the original company has since gone into liquidation, the facility will continue to serve the community as The Regent Health Club & Spa. The new management has expressed commitment to safeguarding memberships, spa vouchers, and existing staff positions. They are also planning significant capital investments to revitalize the club. Phone lines are scheduled to resume operation on February 19. The gym is currently accessible with some limitations due to ongoing fire damage repairs, aiming for a complete reopening of the spa and studios by March 1.
