24 Feb
Summary
- Women-led e-bike taxis will offer safe rides at tourist spots.
- The service aims to boost women's livelihoods and tourism.
- Electric bikes ensure zero emissions and quiet rides.

The government of Delhi is preparing to introduce a novel e-bike taxi service, named 'e-Bike Didi Yojana,' designed to offer safe and affordable last-mile connectivity for women tourists. This initiative will deploy women riders on electric two-wheelers at prominent tourist locations, including the Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Lotus Temple, Chandni Chowk, and Humayun's Tomb.
The policy is currently under development, involving consultations across tourism, transport, and civic departments. Eligible women, aged 18 to 40 and residing in Delhi with a valid driving license, will be trained to operate the e-bikes. This program aims to address the demand for safer public transport options while generating employment for women in a male-dominated industry.
Utilizing electric two-wheelers, the service will contribute to reducing noise and air pollution at these high-footfall areas, aligning with Delhi's goals to enhance its image as a global cultural destination. The Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation will be the implementing agency, with applications to be invited online and offline once the policy is finalized and approved.
