Delhi is set to witness a major overhaul of its housing projects for the underprivileged, following the approval of several key measures by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) will spearhead efforts to accelerate rehabilitation and improve the quality of life in colonies designated for the city's poor residents.
Key initiatives include the comprehensive repair and renovation of 2,416 ready-to-move flats in northwest Delhi's Sawda Ghevra, with a strict deadline of January 15. The Chief Minister emphasized that allocations will only commence once essential services like water, electricity, sanitation, and waste management are fully operational. Similar renovation and infrastructure upgrades are slated for Bhalswa, Dwarka, and Sultanpuri.
Furthermore, all DUSIB colonies will receive mandatory essential facilities, including commercial units, community halls, and health centers. The plan also includes establishing sewage treatment plants, improving roads, and developing parks and sewer networks. The urban development minister highlighted the importance of integrating commercial spaces like vegetable shops and milk booths into both new and existing housing developments to foster self-sufficiency.
