Delhi authorities confiscated over 322 kg of ghee during recent inspections of shops promoting steep discounts on social media. This action occurred as the festive season approaches, with officials concerned about product quality and pricing.
The food safety department targeted retailers advertising deals like 'Buy One, Get One Free' and discounts up to 60 percent. Inspections aimed to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and prevent the sale of adulterated, substandard, expired, or mislabeled food items.
During searches in Vikaspuri and Hastal village, multiple enforcement samples of ghee and other food items were collected. Significant quantities of ghee were seized from specific stores, including brands like Shri Shan, Vrinda Farms, and Avtar.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta affirmed the government's commitment to combating food adulteration, emphasizing public health protection. She advised consumers to exercise caution and thoroughly examine food products before purchase.
Further inspections across Delhi uncovered suspected labeling irregularities and violations of food safety requirements at various establishments. Samples of sugar-boiled confectionery, makhana, turmeric powder, biscuits, and candies were collected. The department indicated that additional actions would follow these findings.
