Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi is preparing for a substantial upgrade through a ten-year master plan until 2036. The initial phase, by April 2030, aims to boost annual passenger handling capacity to 116 million from the current 106 million. This capacity is projected to reach 125 million by 2032.
As part of this expansion, Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) will construct Pier E at Terminal 3 by April 2030, which will add capacity for 10 million passengers. While Terminal 4 and an Automatic Passenger Mover (APM) system are not immediately planned, rights of way for the APM are being considered.
The airport currently handles 106 million passengers annually across its three terminals. The master plan is undergoing finalization after consultations with all stakeholders, ensuring alignment with future air traffic needs and operational requirements.
