Decatur Intersection Upgrade: Rogers Group Wins $2.55M Bid
14 Jun
Summary
- Rogers Group bid $2.55 million for intersection improvements.
- Project includes adding lanes and a service road at a busy intersection.
- Construction is estimated to take between 140 and 200 days.

The City Council is expected to award a contract to Rogers Group for approximately $2.55 million to improve the Country Club Road-Point Mallard Parkway intersection. This bid, the lowest of two received, exceeds the initial $1.8 million estimate. City Engineer Carl Prewitt explained that state-mandated requirements increased the project's cost.
The planned improvements include adding a second left-turn lane from Country Club Road onto Point Mallard Parkway, a new through lane connecting to a future service road, and a right-turn lane from northbound Alabama 67. These enhancements are intended to address current traffic bottlenecks and support upcoming developments.
Originally conceptualized in 2023 due to a proposed town home development, the project is moving forward even after that plan fell through. A major reason for proceeding is the anticipated $400 million development on the former Decatur Country Club property, expected to begin this summer. Officials anticipate the intersection would require widening regardless of new developments due to existing traffic volume.
The project timeline is estimated at 140 to 200 days for completion. However, a lead time for ordering new signal poles may affect the final start date, which is currently undetermined.
