Robots Revolutionize Decathlon Warehouse Efficiency
20 Mar
Summary
- Robots now operate in Decathlon's Northampton warehouse.
- The new robotic system is over three times more efficient.
- No warehouse staff lost their jobs due to the automation.

Decathlon's warehouse operations in Northampton have undergone a significant transformation with the introduction of 100 robots. Previously, staff walked over six miles daily to pick items for stores and customers. The new robotic fleet now navigates the warehouse, accessing shelves up to 12m high, to deliver stock.
The sports retailer reports that this automation has led to a productivity increase of more than three times. Crucially, Decathlon asserts that no jobs were eliminated due to the integration of robots. This assurance aims to address potential worker displacement concerns.
Despite the company's claims, labor unions have voiced apprehension regarding the future of human employment in automated environments. A union representative indicated that the ultimate goal of such automation is often to replace human workers, raising questions about the long-term impact on the workforce.
