Dacia Sandero Dominates Europe, Faces EV Sales Pressure
20 Jan
Summary
- Dacia Sandero named Europe's best-selling new car for second year.
- Sandero sales reached 289,295 units globally last year.
- Dacia must increase EV sales to meet UK's 33% ZEV mandate.

The Dacia Sandero has clinched the top spot as Europe's best-selling new car for 2025, marking its second consecutive year of dominance. This achievement is underpinned by its status as one of the continent's most affordable vehicles, with global sales reaching 289,295 units last year.
Dacia is currently navigating a challenging period, particularly in the UK, where the company must increase its electric vehicle (EV) sales to meet the government's Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate. Manufacturers are required to achieve 33% battery-electric sales this year, with substantial penalties for non-compliance.
To address this, Dacia plans updates for the Sandero and Sandero Stepway in 2026, including design refreshes and interior upgrades. The brand is also looking to bolster its EV offerings with the affordable Spring model and an upcoming electric city car, aiming to improve its EV sales mix without limiting popular internal combustion engine models.
