Costco's Value Proposition Unbeatable, Analysts Say

Analysts forecast a strong third fiscal quarter for Costco, with expectations of significant year-over-year growth in both revenue and earnings per share. The retail giant has consistently surpassed revenue and earnings estimates in recent quarters. Oppenheimer analyst Rupesh Parikh reiterated an 'Outperform' rating, increasing the price target to $1,160. Parikh emphasized Costco's undeniable value proposition and the potential for improved market share, attributing this to savings and fuel discounts.

Parikh also suggested the possibility of a special dividend or stock split announcement. Peer performance, such as BJ's Wholesale's strong earnings, indicates a positive trend for warehouse clubs. BJ's reported robust membership growth and increased membership fee income, signaling a consumer shift towards bulk and value shopping. Costco's own visit data supports this trend, with significant year-over-year increases observed in February, March, and April.

Visits to warehouse club gas stations, including Costco's, have also seen substantial growth, potentially driving more foot traffic to stores and boosting membership renewals. Despite positive operational indicators, some market watchers express caution regarding Costco's stock technicals, noting it is testing a major resistance level. Support levels are identified at $960 and $870, with potential upside targets around $1,050 and $1,200 if the earnings report is optimistic.
