Saratoga Springs' historic Compton's Restaurant is facing a lawsuit from its landlord, a development revealed by the diner on social media. The Rochester-based landlord is reportedly seeking to force the closure of the establishment. The second-generation owners, sisters Sandy Compton and Tina Maher, along with Maher's husband William, have publicly stated their intention to contest the legal action, disputing claims of unpaid rent and asserting that all payments have been made.
The owners initially considered relocating due to the stress of the situation but have since been inspired by overwhelming customer support to remain and fight for their original location at 457 Broadway. The restaurant, founded by John Compton in 1984, was sold to his daughters and son-in-law in 2016. The building was later sold in 2021 to developer Angelo Ingrassia, who has plans for renovations and new construction. Despite the legal dispute, Compton's is set to expand its hours in March, operating daily from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
