Combine Concaves Slash Maize Changeover Time
30 Mar
Summary
- Modular concaves reduce combine changeover time to 15 minutes.
- Retrofit system offers inserts for various crop types.
- Field tests show cleaner samples and fewer cracked kernels.

Canadian company Bushel Plus, soon to be rebranded as BranValt, has introduced a new modular concave system for John Deere X9 combines designed to streamline the transition to crops like grain maize. The Split Frame MAD Concaves feature lightweight steel inserts that can be swapped out, reducing the typical multi-hour changeover process to just 15 minutes.
This innovation is particularly beneficial for arable and mixed farms increasingly considering grain maize as a break crop. With challenges like cabbage stem flea beetle impacting oilseed rape and grain maize offering potentially higher gross margins, faster crop changeovers become a significant advantage. Field tests indicate that the MAD concaves also produce cleaner grain samples and minimize kernel cracking in maize, alongside offering specific inserts for different crop types to maintain optimal threshing and separation.
The company also offers the SmartPan for grain loss assessment and the MiniCombine moisture meter as part of its product line.
