Cohere has commenced its Series E funding round, with an initial close announced on Thursday. Schwarz Group is leading the investment, joined by new backers such as Bell Ventures, Bullhound Capital, and the Government of Canada, alongside returning investors like Inovia Capital, Nvidia, and Prosperity7 Ventures.
The substantial funding is earmarked for advancing Cohere's AI modeling and product roadmap. It will also support the creation of AI products tailored for regulated industries. Furthermore, investments will be made into computing infrastructure essential for training enterprise-level AI models. Cohere plans to maintain its headquarters in Canada and anticipates investing approximately C$1.2 billion in domestic computing infrastructure by 2030.
The Government of Canada's investment, which Bloomberg reports could be as much as C$1.14 billion, aims to give Canadians a stake in the company's growth. Prime Minister Mark Carney emphasized that by scaling operations, Cohere enables businesses and governments greater control over sensitive data storage, usage, and access. Cohere reported significant growth, with annual recurring revenue up 165% and a customer base expansion to 300 clients, including major organizations like Bell Canada, Fujitsu, RBC, PwC, and TD Bank.
