- This merger strengthens Clyde & Co's presence in the U.S. legal market.
- Legal industry merger activity saw an 18% increase in 2025.

Clyde & Co, a London-founded law firm with over 2,400 lawyers, has significantly expanded its U.S. legal market presence. The firm recently merged with Forsberg & Umlauf, a Seattle and Portland-based firm of 32 lawyers, establishing a new office in Seattle. This acquisition bolsters Clyde & Co's operations in North America, a region that accounted for 25% of its revenues in the last fiscal year and has been its fastest-growing.
The new Seattle office will focus on insurance coverage and bad faith litigation, areas of expertise for Forsberg & Umlauf. This strategic expansion aligns with a broader trend of increased merger activity within the legal sector. Figures indicate an 18% year-over-year rise in such tie-ups during 2025.
This year has already seen several law firm acquisitions, with larger global combinations also on the horizon. Notably, Winston & Strawn and Taylor Wessing's UK business have approved a transatlantic merger. Other significant deals expected include Hogan Lovells' combination with Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft and Ashurst's tie-up with Perkins Coie.
