Fiber Tech Cuts BVI Network Build Time by 50%
31 May
Summary
- Clearfield technology halved network deployment time for BVI.
- BVI infrastructure was destroyed by two Category 5 hurricanes.
- Modular design allows quick component swaps post-storm.

Clearfield, Inc. announced recently that Caribbean Cellular Telephone Ltd. (CCT) and BVI Cable TV have significantly rebuilt the British Virgin Islands' communications infrastructure using Clearfield's advanced fiber technologies. The initiative, which began following severe damage from two Category 5 hurricanes in 2017, saw network deployment times cut by 50%.
The project addressed the critical need for rapid network restoration, especially given the limited availability of skilled fiber splicers in the region. Clearfield's pre-connectorized, modular fiber solutions proved instrumental in overcoming these challenges.
Utilizing Clearfield's FieldSmart cabinets, Clearview Blue Cassettes, FieldShield solutions, and YOURx-Terminal platform, a substantial portion of the BVI's network has been reconstructed. This new infrastructure now serves approximately one-third of households and businesses, ensuring quicker repairs and enhanced resilience against future storms.
