China PC Market Surges Despite Tablet Drop
22 Sep
Summary
- Mainland China's PC shipments grew 11% year-over-year in 2Q26.
- Desktop shipments surged 42%, driving overall PC market growth.
- Tablet shipments declined 13% due to weaker demand and supply issues.
Mainland China's PC shipments saw an impressive 11% year-over-year growth in the second quarter of 2026, totaling 11.4 million units. This expansion was largely attributed to a substantial 42% increase in desktop sales, which counteracted a modest 2% dip in notebook shipments. The commercial sector, fueled by the XinChuang initiative promoting domestic IT, was a primary driver, with shipments in this segment rising by 29%.
Conversely, the tablet market experienced a 13% decline to 8.0 million units in the same quarter. Weaker consumer demand and persistent supply constraints were cited as key factors behind this downturn. For the full year of 2026, PC shipments are projected to decrease by 6%, with tablet shipments expected to fall by 10%. Analysts note that while consumer PC demand has weakened due to fading subsidies and rising prices, inventory stockpiling has provided some support.
