Chicago Bridge Work Extended, Delays CTA Lines
28 Oct
Summary
- Lake Street Bridge project completion delayed.
- Unexpected alignment issues caused extended disruptions.
- Green and Pink Line services remain affected.

Work on Chicago's Lake Street Bridge project has encountered unforeseen complications, leading to an extended delay in its completion. The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) cited unexpected alignment issues and the complexity of connecting old and new bridge leaf elements as the reasons for the prolonged work.
This means that disruptions to CTA Green and Pink Line services will continue for an indeterminate period. CDOT has apologized for the inconvenience and is actively working to finalize the necessary connections and alignments between the new bridge components and the existing infrastructure.
Currently, Green Line trains are operating between Harlem and Clinton and between Clark/Lake and South Side terminals, with shuttle buses bridging the gap between Clinton and Clark/Lake. Pink Line trains will continue their revised route between 54th/Cermak and Racine Blue Line, with passengers needing to transfer to the Blue Line for Loop access. Pink Line trains will not serve the Loop elevated structure.
CDOT has committed to announcing a specific date and time for the full restoration of normal service once these critical construction elements are successfully resolved and confirmed.
