Used SUV King: Chevy Equinox Shocks Auto Market
25 Jan
Summary
- Chevrolet Equinox leads used SUV sales, surpassing top models.
- Compact SUVs dominate used market, favored for efficiency.
- RAV4 leads new SUV sales but trails Equinox in used market.

In a surprising turn of events for the automotive market, the Chevrolet Equinox has emerged as the leading used SUV. A comprehensive study of over 9 million used car sales from the past five years revealed the Equinox's strong performance.
This compact SUV secured the fourth position overall in used vehicle sales and rose to become the top-selling used SUV. It surpassed major competitors, including the Nissan Rogue, Ford Explorer, Toyota RAV4, and Honda CR-V, which rounded out the top five.
The dominance of compact SUVs on the used market, including the Equinox and RAV4, suggests a strong consumer preference for fuel-efficient vehicles. While the Toyota RAV4 has been the best-selling new SUV for nearly a decade and ranked third in new car sales in 2025, the Equinox sold fewer new units in the same year.
