Chevron Corporation (CVX) has announced robust third-quarter financial results, with shares climbing in premarket trading. The company's adjusted earnings per share reached $5.28, surpassing the analyst consensus of $4.88. This outperformance was largely attributed to improved refining margins and a favorable environment of higher crude oil prices.
Revenue for the quarter stood at $67.8 billion, a notable increase from the previous year and exceeding market expectations. The company reported adjusted earnings of $10.4 billion, a substantial jump compared to $3.6 billion in the same period last year. U.S. refineries operated at near-peak utilization rates, contributing significantly to downstream operations.
Mike Wirth, Chevron's chairman and CEO, highlighted the company's strong operational performance and disciplined execution in continuing to invest in energy supply. He noted that upstream production in the U.S. has consistently exceeded 2 million barrels of oil equivalent per day for five consecutive quarters. Total net oil-equivalent production was 3,980 thousand barrels per day, with slight year-over-year decreases due to pricing effects and global conflict.
Chevron demonstrated strong financial management by generating $16.0 billion in cash flow from operations and $12.0 billion in free cash flow. The company also achieved a significant reduction in total debt by $3.5 billion, while maintaining a healthy return on capital employed of 18%. A quarterly dividend of $1.78 per share was declared, payable on December 10, 2026.
