Chemours, DuPont de Nemours, and Corteva have collectively agreed to a $455 million settlement resolving PFAS-related litigation in North Carolina. The agreement addresses claims tied to contamination from Fayetteville Works and other sources, including AFFF.
Payments will be disbursed over 15 years. Chemours will finance 50% of the settlement, with its portion valued at roughly $180 million on a net present value basis. This amount is already accounted for by existing accruals, and approximately $50 million is anticipated within the next twelve months.
The settlement includes $18 million for PFAS contamination claims not linked to Fayetteville Works. For qualified-spend purposes, the agreement counts as approximately $210 million and satisfies all future escrow contributions, including a $50 million payment from Chemours due in September 2026.
This resolution recognizes progress under Chemours' 2019 Consent Order with North Carolina, establishing procedures for remaining off-site obligations like drinking water programs. The company stated that the agreement provides clarity on legacy liabilities and supports ongoing operations at Fayetteville Works.
