21 Aug
Summary
- Electricity services now have fixed timelines under new rules.
- Faults, billing, and meter complaints face strict deadlines.
- CPDL must adhere to these new government-mandated timelines.

The Chandigarh administration has introduced a new notification mandating strict timelines for electricity services provided by Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL). This update, issued under the Punjab Right to Service Act, aims to expedite power restoration, fault rectifications, and the resolution of billing and meter complaints.
Specific timeframes are now in place for various scenarios. For instance, blown fuses must be fixed within four hours in urban areas and eight hours in rural areas. Broken service lines require restoration within six hours (urban) and twelve hours (rural). Major issues like LT main distribution line faults need rectification within 12 hours, with temporary supply restoration in four hours. Transformer failures in urban areas must be replaced within 24 hours, with temporary solutions arranged within eight hours if immediate replacement isn't feasible.
Consumer complaints also fall under these new regulations. Voltage fluctuation issues related to local transformers must be addressed within three days. Meter accuracy complaints have a 30-day resolution period, with meter checks and replacements occurring within 15 days. Billing complaints are to be resolved within seven days, and reconnection requests within five days for certain cases.
Furthermore, the notification sets deadlines for new electricity connections and load enhancements. For new connections where no distribution mains extension is needed, timelines are 16 days in urban areas and 24 days in rural areas. Load enhancement requests have a 30-day limit. These timelines commence only after the submission of complete and correct applications, with designated officers responsible for implementation.
