Carraro India Eyes Major Growth With Capacity Expansion
27 May
Summary
- Company shifts to higher-value off-highway engineering platform.
- Premium 4WD tractor demand surges, outperforming 2WD segment.
- Exports rise significantly, driven by construction equipment.

Pune-based Carraro India is undergoing a strategic transformation, moving from a traditional component supplier to a high-value off-highway engineering platform. The company is preparing for significant growth by expanding axle capacity and scaling its manufacturing infrastructure.
This growth is driven by a structural shift in India's tractor market towards premium 4WD tractors. Carraro India projects a 23% CAGR for the 4WD segment through 2029, far exceeding the 2.8% CAGR for 2WD tractors. This trend was accelerated in FY26 by a narrowing price gap.
Construction equipment is also a key growth driver, with revenue rising 31% year-on-year in FY26. Exports saw a substantial 37% increase, largely due to Tele Boom Handler axles and Backhoe Loader driveline systems supplied to global OEMs.
Carraro India is scaling manufacturing capacity, with plans for increased axle production and new facilities. The company is also venturing into electric off-highway mobility, securing an agreement for e-transmissions for electric tractors.
Internal accruals will fund much of this expansion, supported by nearly doubled operating cash flow in FY26 and improved debt-equity ratios. Localisation efforts are also increasing, enhancing supply-chain resilience.
