29 Jan
Summary
- Canal+ may deploy its app to MultiChoice clients, integrating content.
- The company seeks to boost subscriber numbers for MultiChoice.
- Combined entity targets significant earnings and cost savings by 2030.

Canal+ SA is evaluating the deployment of its integrated streaming app to subscribers of MultiChoice Group, the South African pay-TV operator it acquired in late 2025. This move could allow users to access content from partners like AppleTV and Warner Bros Discovery's HBO Max directly through the Canal+ app.
The French firm, which gained control of MultiChoice in a deal valuing the African platform at approximately $3 billion, has not yet finalized decisions regarding MultiChoice's streaming service, Showmax, or the broader rollout of the Canal+ app across MultiChoice's operational areas.
Canal+ is actively working to reverse MultiChoice's recent decline in subscriber numbers, having lost nearly 3 million customers over the past two financial years. The company has already implemented changes, including renegotiating set-top box contracts and offering more affordable units since November 2025.
