29 May
Summary
- Three major Canadian banks exceeded profit expectations.
- All three institutions significantly raised their quarterly dividends.
- Revenue growth and reduced credit loss provisions boosted results.

BMO Financial Group, Bank of Nova Scotia, and National Bank of Canada all reported second-quarter financial results that exceeded analyst forecasts. These leading Canadian banks have collectively announced increases to their quarterly dividend payouts, reflecting robust performance. BMO, in particular, demonstrated a significant profit surge, with net income climbing 34% year-over-year. The bank's revenue also saw an increase, complemented by a sharp reduction in provisions for credit losses.
Scotiabank and National Bank of Canada also delivered strong earnings, surpassing consensus estimates. Both banks saw improvements in profitability across various segments, although Global Banking and Markets experienced a modest sequential decline for Scotiabank. National Bank highlighted strong growth in its capital markets division, with advisory fees increasing substantially. These positive results have led to an increased quarterly dividend for National Bank shareholders.
